- Candidates may play from any Bach edition in the original key.
- NOTE: This years solo competition is for Bass Trombonists ONLY

Any submitted recording with editing found will be disqualified and names submitted to ITA.
Three Finalists from each college division competition will be chosen to compete live at the Trombone Summit on Saturday April 21, 2012

NOTE: High School Ensembles only play one quartet of their choice.
The Fort Worth Trombone Summit is both a celebration of the instrument and an event dedicated to the advancement of trombone chamber music. In keeping with the Summit’s mission and goals, trombone quartet competitions for high school and university-age trombonists will be held in conjunction with the Summit.
Hosted by the TCU School of Music on April 20-21, 2012, the Summit will feature performances and pedagogical presentations throughout the day, culminating in guest artist performances and the final round for the college division competition in the evening.
The Fort Worth Trombone Summit is also committed to the advocacy of contemporary music. A new work for quartet will be commissioned annually, to be used as part of the final round repertoire in the college division competition the following year.
Eligibility and Awards
High School Division
- All quartet members of this division must currently be enrolled in high school with a maximum combined age of 72.
- A non-refundable $20 application fee is required for each High School Division quartet entry.
- This level of the competition will not be pre-screened through recording, and will consist solely of one round to take place on the morning of the Trombone Summit.
- A panel of three members will adjudicate the competition, awarding the winning quartet a Grand Prize of $500.
College Division
- All quartet members of this division must currently be enrolled in college, university or conservatory with a maximum combined age of 88. (No individual member may exceed 23 years of age at the time of the Trombone Summit April 21, 2012. All College Division finalists must supply the competition with a photocopy of their driver’s license or other verification of birth date as part of the application.)
- A non-refundable application fee of $40 is required for each College Division quartet entry.
- Attendance at the 2012 Fort Worth Trombone Summit is required of all finalists. Finalists are required to confirm their participation to guarantee their position.
- Alternates or runners-up may be invited to replace any contestant who fails to register by March 21, 2012.
- This competition will consist of two rounds. The Preliminary Round will be the submission of a recording of the required work (see repertoire below). Three finalists will be chosen based on the adjudication of applicant CDs by three judges. A list of these prestigious judges will be posted after the finalists have been announced.
- The Final Round will take place as a live performance comprising the first half of the Fort Worth Trombone Summit’s evening concert in TCU’s PepsiCo Recital Hall. A panel of three members will adjudicate the competition, awarding the winning quartet a Grand Prize of $1000 (Sponsored by Courtois Musical Instruments).
Bach Unaccompanied Trombone Competition
Grand Prize: New Bach 50B Bass Trombone (Sponsored by Conn-Selmer)
The annual Solo Competition is designed to celebrate unaccompanied repertoire. This solo competition is comprised of exclusively unaccompanied solo repertoire. There will only be one solo competition each year alternating between Tenor and Bass Trombone every other year (odd numbered years being tenor and even years bass).
2012 will be for Bass Trombonists.
Eligibility and Requirements:
- All competitors of this division must currently be enrolled in college, university or conservatory with a maximum age of 21. (All College Division finalists must supply the competition with a photocopy of their driver’s license or other verification of birth date as part of the application.)
- A non-refundable application fee of $25 is required for each College Division quartet entry.
- Attendance at the 2012 Fort Worth Trombone Summit is required of all finalists. Finalists are required to confirm their participation to guarantee their position.
- Alternates or runners-up may be invited to replace any contestant who fails to register by March 21, 2012.
- This competition will consist of two rounds. The Preliminary Round will be the submission of a recording of the required work (see repertoire below). Three finalists will be chosen based on the adjudication of applicant CDs by three judges. A list of these prestigious judges will be posted after the finalists have been announced.

(Note: Should a winner prefer a different model Conn-Selmer Bass Trombone, she or he may exchange the instrument at the Summit paying only the cost difference (plus tax) between the 50B and model of choice) .
ITEMS TO NOTE:
- Audience members will also cast votes at the competition. In the case of a split decision by the judges, the audience votes will be tallied to decide the winner.
- Award checks will be issued to winning ensembles directly from Courtois musical instruments shortly following the Summit and could take up to 30 days for processing.
- For all competitions, all performances must be given from original scores, not photocopies.
Submission of Materials
DEADLINE
- High School Division - Deadline for submission of registration form and application fee is Friday April 6, 2012. Contact David Begnoche for Saturday walk-in audition possibilities (spaces not guaranteed unless arrangements are made in advance).
- College Division - Deadline for first round recordings must be POSTMARKED no latter than March 5, 2012. Entries received after March 6th will not be considered.

Application Fee
- The Fort Worth Trombone Summit accepts payment via bank check or money order in US Dollars (drawn on a US bank); special payment arrangements can be made for international applicants. Be sure to include a copy of your completed application with your check or money order made out to: TCU School of Music
- A copy of the receipt will also be sent to your email address.
Recording (College Division only)
- Submit four copies of an unedited CD (no tapes, DATs or mini-disks). Label only the CD jackets with your name. Do not label the CDs and do not include any spoken commentary other identifiable information on the recording. Please note that CDs will not be returned.

General Rules and Requirements
- Quartet members are only allowed to be in one ensemble.
- Quartet personnel changes are NOT allowed for the final competition round (no exceptions).
- If a finalist group is unable to be present at the Fort Worth Trombone Summit, an alternate group may be selected.
- All College Division finalists must supply the competition with a copy of driver’s license or other verification of birth date upon registration at the Summit
- All recordings must be in a CD format only. Recordings will NOT be returned to the applicants. Do not send originals.
- All works must be recorded as a live performance allowing for pauses between movements without editing when applicable. No editing of any type is permitted within the performance of the entire work.
- Materials must be received by noon March 6, as they will be shipped to judges that afternoon. NOTE: Tracking number services through postal carriers are highly recommended. Media mail service is NOT recommended.
- Finalists will be notified by mail and email by March 19, 2012, and a list will be posted on the website.
- Finalists are responsible for all transportation and lodging expenses.
Grounds for Disqualification
- Failure to submit an unedited recording
- Failure to omit any spoken dialogue on the recording.
- Materials being received after the noon March 6th due date.
- Failure to follow all instructions regarding the labeling of materials and CD container (please see above).
